DAY 2 TOP HALF OF WV

Today was an interesting and eventful day in our travels and studies of the top half of the state of West Virginia. The sights were breath taking and scientific. We learned at Harper's Ferry that John Brown,s interest in the town was created by the geology. The confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac created an excellent area for water power. The Federal Government built an arsenal to make rifles which was Browns interest.
After leaving Harper's Ferry we had lunch at Romney then continued to the Fairfax Stone. This stone marks the boundary of the land granted to Lord Fairfax and consequently the boundary of Maryland and Virginia and then West Virgina.
We finished up at Blackwater Canyon. We saw Blackwater Falls the largest falls in the state. We then went to the scenic vista called Lindy Point. We then went to the north fork of the Blackwater River and saw the effects of acid mine drainage. The river has the acidity of stomach acid.
